As defined by the federal and state law, developmental disability is a severe and chronic disability attributable to a physical or mental impairment other than mental illness that is manifested before the age of 22 and is like to continue indefinitely, resulting in substantial functional limitations in major life activities.
If an individual plans to apply for DODD services, he or she must meet and established criteria:
- He or she must have a developmental disability or delay
- The disability must occur prior to the age of 22
- The disability must result in multiple functional limitations
